After a trip to Australia, I saw Souvlaki's everywhere, which is similar to our Gyros here. I got the chance to have the Falafel souvlaki, minus the sauces. I wanted to recreate the real thing, and I'm glad I did. It's so yummy!
Ingredients:
1 package of Gardien beefless tips
2-3 tomatoes, sliced
1 onion, sliced
1-2 cups of lettuce chopped
Large Pitas
Tzatziki Sauce, use the link recipe or a quick recipe below
Garlic Sauce, recipe below
Foil
Directions:
Prepare your sauces
Prepare your beefless tips, according to package
When done chop each tip into 2-3 pieces
Prepare you pita:
Spread garlic sauce and tzatziki sauce in the center of the pita
Top with beefless tips, onion, lettuce and tomato
Fold over sides and wrap tight in foil
Serve with extra sauces
Garlic Sauce
½ head of garlic, chopped finely
½ cup of vegetable oil
1/3 cup of vegenaise
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Juice from 1 lemon
½ teaspoon of salt
Directions:
Add all ingredients to a food processor and blend of 3-5 minutes until thickened
Quick Tzatziki sauce
12oz of Tofutti sour cream
½ cucumber, peel and finely chopped
¼ cup of freshly chopped dill
1 tablespoon of crushed garlic
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Combine all ingredients and let marinate in refrigerator for 15 minutes
