Oh boy! If you haven't tried it, you have definitly heard of it. In N Out's Animal Style with Cheese, Grilled Onions and Thousand Island. Here is a Vegan Grilled Cheese version.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup of vegenaise
2 rounded tablespoons of ketchup
2 tablespoons of sweet relish
2 tablespoons of minced red onion (optional)
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of white wine vinegar
Salt and pepper
2 onions, chopped
8-10 slices of bread
4-5 slices of FYH American Style Cheese Slices
1/4 cup of Earth Balance Butter, or more
Directions:
Mix the first 6 ingredients together
Season with salt and pepper
Mix well and refrigerate for at least 1 hour
In a large sauce pan melt 1-2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat
Add in your onion
Allow to cook for 15-20 minutes until onion is caramelized, stirring frequently
Season with salt and pepper
Remove from pan and set aside
Melt 1/2-1 tablespoon of butter in pan over medium heat
Add in 2 slices of bread
On one slice add 1 slice of cheese, top with spoonful of thousand is and
Followed by grilled onions (add as much as you like)
Take the 2nd sliced bread and place on top
With a spatula press down
Allow to cook for 1-2 minutes, until golden
Carefully flip your grilled cheese
Continue to cook until golden
Remove from pan and repeat with remaining bread
Add in more butter when needed
Slice your grilled cheese and serve*
*Feeling frisky, carefully pull apart the cooked grilled cheese and load up with more onions and thousand island before serving.
