I wanted to try a little something different. I had been seeing Artisan Tofurky Chicken Apple Sausages around and was waiting for the right recipe to create to use it in. I thought to myself, hmmm I bet that would go great in a savory pastry. I didn’t want to do the normal crescent roll ups so I figured I would give bars a try. I’m so happy I did because these were so tasty. All the flavors and textures blend really well together.
Ingredients:
1 package of Artisan Tofurky Chicken Apple Sausages, crumbled
½ large onion, diced
5oz Yellow Cherry Tomatoes, cut in half
¾ wedge of Follow Your Heart Garden Herb Cheese
2 crescent roll packages
2 tablespoon of Earth Balance butter
Salt and pepper
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375
In a large frying pan melt 1 tablespoon of butter
Add in your onions
Sauté for 5 minutes
Add in your cherry tomatoes and cook for roughly 1-2 minutes
Add in your sausage crumbles
Cook for 5 minutes
Turn off heat
Unroll your crescent rolls
Form 1 rectangles out of each entire package, sealing edges
(you should have two rectangles)
Place 1 sheet into a greased 9x12 baking dish
Spread your sausage mix evenly ontop
Top with shredded cheese
Place your second crescent sheet on top
Carefully press down
Melt your remaining butter and brush on top of bars
Place into oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown
Remove from oven
Let cool for 5 minutes
Cut into squares
